No matter what position you are in, your job can be stressful. Here are some of the most common causes of stress at work and ways to deal with it.

  • Workload and being overworked

Whether at work or at home, the best way to deal with stress is to reduce the sources of it. You should always identify your priorities.

If you are overloading, then the easiest way to deal with it is to reduce your workload. However, this isn’t always possible, especially if it doesn’t depend on you. Another way to deal with the problem is to prioritize. Categorize all work by priority or deadline. This will give you some breathing space.

  • Sense of job security 

Job security is paramount especially when it comes to supporting a family. Apart from doing your job to the best of your ability, in most cases,  one person won’t have much impact on the problem. Thirty percent said job security was the most worrying and stressful part of their job.

If you feel your job is at risk,  try to confront the problem. Instead of worrying in silence, talk to your supervisor. Do not let the uncertainty overwhelm you. Once you know the reality, you can plan accordingly. If you need to prepare for the worst,  you can at least look for other job opportunities and try to remember the old saying: “when one door closes, another opens.”

  • Familiar with office politics

Politics at work is not always caused by power games in the office hierarchy, but by poor communication or poor work ethics. Dealing with office politics can be the source of stress at the office. While you can’t avoid getting involved in these office politics, you can try to turn “negative” into “positive.”

A common cause of friction in the office is that people do not know each other well enough. Knowing the person who caused the conflict often helps to solve the problem. It can also help you understand their motivation, ambition, and goals, and how to get the job done without getting in the way of others.

  • Meeting deadlines

Getting things done on time may cause stress for someone. In some cases, it is possible to meet a deadline, but it is not always possible. An easy way to handle deadlines is to be organized. 

Deadlines are often associated with overwork, which means they can be handled in the same way — by organizing and prioritizing. Develop a system that helps you keep an overview of your projects and deadlines. Not only will this help you work more efficiently, but it will also make you feel less stressed.
